Resources for Students

Western Allegheny Community Library offers a variety of resources to support students in their academic journey. We provide tools to assist with learning, encourage exploration, and foster a love of reading. Our library is here to help students succeed and grow, every step of the way. Resources include:

  • Desktop computers
  • High-speed internet and Wi-Fi
  • Printers
  • Scan, Copy, Email, or Fax
  • Quiet study/tutor rooms
  • Café with coffee and vending machines

We are also happy to offer students up to 5 pages of free printing for homework assignments.

School Bus Drop Off

Western Allegheny Middle and High School students can take a bus from school to the library Monday through Thursday, with a signed permission slip. This service provides students with easy access to the library for after-school learning and activities.

Accelerated Reader Testing

Western Allegheny Middle School students can now access and take their Accelerated Reader tests at the library. Students will need to know their login and use one of the library computers to access the Accelerated Reader website.

Parents & Educators

The library offers a wide selection of parenting and teaching materials in the Adult Nonfiction department. These resources cover a variety of topics including child-rearing, teaching aids, child psychology, and literacy. Additionally, we feature special collections like storytime and book club kits, as well as resources in world languages, all of which can be helpful for both classroom and home use.

Classroom Cooperation & Outreach

We are always eager to collaborate with teachers to ensure that we have the right resources to support research and reading assignments. If you have an upcoming assignment, please let us know your research needs by emailing us at westallegheny@westernalleghenylibrary.org so that we can prepare. We can also assist you in introducing engaging books to your students by curating a collection of materials tailored to your curriculum. With two weeks' notice, our Youth Services staff will create a collection of titles for classroom use. Additionally, the library is happy to accommodate group visits for classes, homeschool students, and scouts. To schedule a visit or learn more, please contact the Youth Services Department at (724) 695-8150. Don’t forget to inquire about obtaining a classroom library card, which provides full access to our online resources and research databases.
