Community Outreach
At Western Allegheny Community Library, we are committed to engaging with and supporting our community. Through various outreach programs and partnerships, we aim to make library resources and services accessible to everyone, whether in-person or virtually. We strive to build strong relationships, promote literacy, and foster a love for learning in the communities we serve.
WACL POP Program
Western Allegheny Community Library's Preschool Outreach Program (WACL POP) helps foster early literacy and Kindergarten readiness for the area's youngest children by visiting over 500 students each month at 10 area preschools and daycares.
West Allegheny School District Partnership
Western Allegheny Community Library has a wonderful partnership with the West Allegheny School District, enabling us to support student learning through various visits and enrichment opportunities. To ensure students have access to all the physical and digital materials the library offers, they can request materials online and have them delivered to their school through the "Red Bag" program. We're also proud to collaborate with the district for their Summer Reading Program and Battle of the Books prep sessions, fostering a love for reading and learning beyond the classroom. Additionally, in collaboration with Monark Student Transportation and the School District, we offer the "Book Bus" initiative, bringing literacy directly into the community and providing easy access to books for families and children.
Story Strolls
Our Story Stroll locations at Clinton Park and Donaldson Park provide a fun and interactive way for families to enjoy a story while getting outdoors. As you walk along the designated paths, you’ll find pages of a children’s book displayed along the way, turning your stroll into a story adventure. This unique program is available at various locations within the community, offering a blend of exercise, fresh air, and literacy fun. Check out the current Story Stroll locations and enjoy a new way to experience reading!
The Clinton Park story stroll begins at Rainbow’s End Playground and goes left. At Donaldson Park, read the story by strolling around the loop to the left from the cover page. The stories will change around the start of each month and are available for families to enjoy year-round on their own time (please note that Clinton Park is closed November 1 - April 1).
Senior Outreach
Through our partnerships with LifeSpan Imperial and other area institutions, we are proud to support senior residents by providing various technology and informational programs for their visitors. Our Senior Outreach initiative aims to enrich the lives of seniors by offering access to library resources and fostering community connections.
