Community Outreach
Western Allegheny Community Library primarily serves the communities of Findlay, North Fayette, and Oakdale, which covers a combined population of 24,000, and a service area of over 58 square miles. We strive to reach as many residents as possible and hence have begun to expand our outreach services.
WACL POP Program
Western Allegheny Community Library's Preschool Outreach Program (WACL POP) helps foster early literacy and Kindergarten readiness for the area's youngest children by visiting over 500 students each month at 10 area preschools and daycares.
West Allegheny School District Partnership
Western Allegheny Community Library has a wonderful partnership with the West Allegheny School District that allows us to support student learning through various visits and student enrichment opportunities. In 2021, we rolled out the "Library Cards for All" initiative, which provides every child in the district a free public library card as part of their enrollment in the school district. With these cards, students have access to all the physical and digital materials the library has to offer. Students can also request materials online and have them delivered to the school via the "Red Bag" program.
Senior Outreach
Through our partnership with Lafayette Square Senior Apartments, LifeSpan Imperial, and Victoria Manor, we help coordinate the delivery of books for residents and offer their visitors various technology and informational programs.
