Solar Observing & the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse

Tuesday, June 27, 2023
6:00 pm7:30 pm

Larry McHenry, amateur astronomer, will present an introduction to solar features visible on our nearest star - the Sun - and safe solar observing techniques, using both white-light and H-alpha solar filters. Additionally, we'll discuss where to go and how to observe the upcoming October 14, 2023 Partial Solar Eclipse and the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. After the indoor talk concludes, attendees will have the opportunity to safely view the Sun on a solar telescope (weather permitting).

South Hills resident Larry McHenry has been active in amateur astronomy for over 40 years, and is a member of the Kiski Astronomers, and the Oil Region Astronomical Society (ORAS) in Western Pennsylvania. One of Larry's favorite astronomical activities is safely observing the Sun. You can learn more about Larry's astronomical interests online at his web portal: www.stellar-journeys.org
