The Western Allegheny Community Library has had a wonderful 2018! Our list of events and accomplishments is long, but we could not have done any of it without you – our patrons, donors, sponsors and visitors. We would like to begin by thanking you! It has been an honor to greet you, to share with you all of our resources, and to help guide you through our educational, hands-on programs. So thank you for showing us your patronage, for sharing about us on social media, and telling others how much you love your library!
What your library does is nothing short of amazing. Every single day we are making a difference and changing lives. During September, our patrons shared why they love the library. Here is what some of your neighbors had to say…
“The library means so much to me! Not only do I have access to materials and resources that help me in my personal and professional life, the library has opened the world to my daughter. By participating in toddler and pre-K programming and having access to school-age resources and educational opportunities, she has grown so much and gained skills that she just couldn’t get anywhere else. I 💜 WACL! Thank You!” – Elaine (Resident of Findlay Township)
“I can join clubs and it encourages me to try new things.” – 10 year old (Oakdale Borough)
“After moving to the Pittsburgh area, away from all that we knew, my family and I felt lost; we were no longer ‘home.’ Soon, we found WACL and I know it may sound silly but it really did change our lives. I cannot speak highly enough about the amazing community resource that we have here. My kids have attended many programs, from storytime to STEM programming and gingerbread house making. And the relationships – oh my! We’ve gained so many friends by coming to the library. THANK YOU to all that make this library what it is and for helping make this community our home!” – Amy (North Fayette Resident)
We are making a difference! YOU are making a difference! It should come as no surprise that WACL was recognized as Allegheny County’s first Gold Star Library. This designation is an acknowledgement of our commitment to providing you, the community, with materials and programs that are essential to your greater success in all vital roles of life: as students, parents, employees, consumers, and citizens.
Western Allegheny Community Library is many things but it is anything but boring. In fact, the library is constantly evolving and changing to meet your needs. The year 2018 started with a massive undertaking, the reconstruction of the Youth Services department, and ended similarly with the addition of a much needed new roof. In 2019, we will be prove to be no different, as we look to possibly update our security/surveillance equipment and install automatic, handicap accessible doors.
WACL strives to be the heart of the community, but it can only continue offering great programs and services with your help. We are asking that during your end of the year giving, you remember us with a donation to your library. Your donation is tax-deductible, and may be matched by your employer. Checks are welcomed by mail or in person and electronic donations can be made through our website, westernalleghenylibrary.org.
Thank you for your past support and consideration of a donation to the library. We hope to see you at the library soon!
President, Board of Directors
P.S. Remember, whether it is $50 or $500, your support matters! We want to continue to make a difference and change lives but we can’t do it without your help!
